Well. That interview went swimmingly. Mr latimer is a work of art. now will he accept mr Darcy’s delusion. By the way, Darcy was fabulous!!

Oh no! The twins have just set Mr. Latimer on a course of revenge for humiliating his daughter in such a way! I’m sure they were hoping it would be Mr. Latimer! Poor Eleanor! Poor Darcy! Poor Bennet’s! Please have Elizabeth come to Eleanor’s rescue…or the Colonel but that might put him in a compromising situation! The Colonel did have me smiling though with his quips to Darcy and Elizabeth. What a man! Jane has certainly become wiser and calls her sister out on her true feelings.
Now as to your trip to England, have a wonderful visit! Will you still be posting on Tuesday???? So much is happening and the ball hasn’t started!!!

OH oh, Failing with Darcy will Latimer try the Colonel. After all, he is seeing Eleanor sopping wet. Compromise? Surely not Bingley because of the twins. Who was their target? Cass, enjoy your travels!

They had planned the prank on Latimer. They don’t like him, and he’d been going on at breakfast about going to the stables. 😉
Thank you! It’s my father-in-law’s 90th birthday so a nice family gathering, then a trip to Derbyshire (I’ll see if I can find out what is going on at Pemberley!) and then Harrogate before home again.

The conversation with Latimer did not disappoint and I agree with Carol that Darcy was phenomenal. If only Lizzy could have overheard him defending her family… swoonworthy stuff Cass!
The target surely must have been Mr Latimer… it went wrong, however. I also hope that the Colonel helps Miss Latimer… that could mean the beginning of a love interest there. Miss Latimer must be kind at heart if she likes the horses, mustn’ t she?
But will there be any posts next week?

Oh my! So happy you liked Darcy’s stance, Cristina! I agonised over that scene for hours and hours! I nearly didn’t include it, almost covered it by Darcy just talking about what happened with the Colonel. So I’m happy I kept battling with it! 😀

The conversation with Latimer was as difficult as I imagined and I loved how Darcy stood up to that awful man! I hope he doesnt do anything about the Bennets though and that that was just a idle threat.
The twins are so funny!!! If only it had hit Latimer instead of his daughter! Now I am afraid for those dear ones, they will receive a big punishment. lol
And Jane’s words to Elizabeth were amazing.

Oh dear. That certainly was a trick gone awry. (I wonder if Miss Latimer will show that she has the hidden talent of Elsa from Disney’s “Frozen” movie by causing all of the water on her to instantly freeze.) Mr. Latimer will be out for blood — the twins are going to be in a heap of trouble now! This might also be the catalyst that will make Miss Latimer finally show a reaction to something — she has been too bland for my taste but I suspect that the personality she shows is a veil she wears for dealing with her father. If Elizabeth shows kindness to Miss Latimer and wraps her warm shawl around Miss Latimer, will Mr. Latimer be appreciative of the gesture and relax his condescending attitude toward Elizabeth? Can a leopard change his spots? Mr. Latimer was in full bluster mode during his meeting with Darcy, but our favorite fella certainly held his own and made it clear that any normal person would realize there would be no future between Darcy and Miss Latimer. But is Mr. Latimer, by any stretch of the imagination, normal? I wanted to smack the old coot when he made the comment to Elizabeth about circumventing her companion duties to Miss Darcy. She is not a paid servant, you miserable, bellyaching, sorehead curmudgeon!

I do feel pity for Eleanor Latimer but omg it was funny and it would have been even more priceless if it had been Latimer Senior who had been hit! Since he bloody well deserved even more after his interview with Darcy!
How can a gentleman say such things about a family or a young woman he knows NOTHING about?! That is bad manners! Please do let the twins succeed at some point at getting Latimer Senior? Please Cass? 😁👏🏻
I had a thought about Colonel Fitzwilliam; maybe Eleanor Latimer for him? And I’m glad to see Bingley and Jane together even if I was on the Wentworth team 😉😁 Well the ball is next!

Those twins!!! Oh, my! I think they were hoping to douse Mr. Latimer rather than his daughter, but whatever their hopes, they will be “in for it” now!
Poor Darcy! I am worried about Latimer and his plans to “unmask” the Bennets as a subtle blackmail against Darcy. And I can’t help but wonder why Eleanor is so standoffish. Perhaps she is in love with someone else?
I hope that Mrs. Latimer’s cooler head will prevail. And that Mr. Bennet will return soon so that the reason for Wickham’s blackmail. I wonder if Lydia is still alive and Wickham is holding her? Perhaps she is the daughter who is in danger?
We shall see! I am very much looking forward to next Tuesday…but not to the week when you will be away. I hope that you have a pleasant journey–how can you not when Derbyshire is one of your destinations??

I see that we all agree that Latimer was the target intended by the twins and I am really sorry Eleanor was hit as I would have loved to see him looking like he is in spirit….ALL WET. How dare he attempt to emotionally blackmail Darcy and disparage the Bennet family’s reputation. Only puts him and Wickedhead in the same classification. I hope something happens to wreck any plans Latimer has to look into things/gossip, etc. in Hertfordshire.
Good for you, Jane. At last you are dealing in realties not “what he or she might mean” by this or that action or words. Yes, there are many signs that things have changed with Mr. Darcy: the kiss, the touch, those long looks.

Was busy yesterday and am just now getting caught up…love the twins antics but like several, feel Latimer will not be decent about it. And like several others, wished “daddy dearest” had been on the receiving end of the bucket rather that the daughter. Wonder if this latest set of events will cause the Latimers to forego attending the ball…hmmm. Poor Darcy…this is another fine pickle he’s gotten himself into…lol. Have a wonderful time in Derbyshire and wish your FIL happy birthday!

An excellent installment! I pray that Darcy and the Colonel can keep Lord Lattimer from searching for gossip about the Bennets. Miss Lattimer makes me wonder. She shows no emotion, but is it an act? Is she annoyed to be thrown over for someone so far beneath her? Will she cause trouble if her father will not? I cannot wait for Tuesday. I do not know how I will endure the withdrawals of having to go a week or more without chapters to read. 😦

Latimer speaking to Elizabeth as Miss Darcy’s companion has an ominous feeling. Then again so does that splash of water on one’s head. Wil the Colonel rest right over too assist? 😉 I can still always hope.

Maybe my typo a while back, naming the Latimers as Lannisters, has come true a little here. Certainly Mr. Latimer is attempting to do a Tywin here in trying to force Darcy into a politcal marriage with his daughter. Miss Latimer, though, doesn’t appear to have the force of personality to be a Cersei, for which we can all be thankful, I think!
I remember some girls in my year at school playing a prank like that on a teacher on April 1st one year. Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on your opinion of that teacher, the water missed. If it hadn’t, and it hadn’t been April 1st, our whole class might have been in detention, because none of us would tell on the culprits. The strange thing is that I’d forgotten all about it till reading this chapter!
What’s the Regency phrase for “you two are grounded for the rest of the week/month/year/your lives”?

I’m glad you teacher escaped unscathed! It’s not a very original prank, though. I remember someone doing it at our school too, but they had filled the bin with paper rather than water!
